Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event such as an accident, assault, natural disaster, or combat. People living with PTSD may experience distressing flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, irritability, emotional numbness, and strong physical reactions to reminders of the trauma. These symptoms can affect daily functioning, relationships, and overall well-being. At Harmony Healing Psychotherapy, we offer evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and trauma-informed care to support your healing. Our goal is to help you process the trauma, reduce symptoms, and rebuild a sense of safety and empowerment. Therapy is available virtually across Ontario and Nova Scotia, making it easier to access the support you need.

Complex PTSD (CPTSD)

Complex PTSD (CPTSD) often arises from prolonged or repeated trauma, such as childhood abuse, neglect, domestic violence, or long-term exposure to emotionally unsafe environments. In addition to the core symptoms of PTSD—like flashbacks, nightmares, and hyperarousal—CPTSD may involve chronic emotional dysregulation, persistent feelings of guilt or shame, a fragmented sense of self, and ongoing difficulty in forming or maintaining relationships. These symptoms can deeply impact daily functioning, self-worth, and trust in others. At Harmony Healing Psychotherapy, we offer trauma-informed and evidence-based therapy tailored to the unique needs of individuals with CPTSD. Through approaches like Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), DBT-PTSD, and somatic strategies, we work collaboratively to help you regain stability, process your pain, and rebuild a sense of control and connection. Our virtual therapy services are available across Ontario and Nova Scotia.

Childhood Trauma

Early experiences of neglect, abuse, or instability can leave lasting emotional imprints that shape how we view ourselves, others, and the world. These wounds can show up later in life as anxiety, low self-esteem, difficulty trusting others, or feeling disconnected from your emotions. At Harmony Healing Psychotherapy, we take a compassionate, trauma-informed approach to help adults explore the lasting effects of childhood trauma. Together, we work to uncover the roots of distress, build emotional resilience, and reclaim your inner sense of safety and self-worth. We offer secure, virtual therapy across Ontario and Nova Scotia to make healing accessible wherever you are.

Sexual Abuse & Rape

Sexual trauma—whether experienced in childhood or adulthood—can deeply affect your sense of safety, trust, and connection with yourself and others. Many survivors carry a heavy burden of shame, even though the abuse was never their fault. This shame can manifest as self-blame, emotional numbness, anxiety, depression, or difficulty with intimacy and relationships. At Harmony Healing Psychotherapy, we offer a trauma-informed and compassionate space to process these painful experiences. We work at your pace to gently explore the impacts of trauma, challenge internalized shame, and support you in rebuilding safety, self-worth, and connection. Virtual therapy is available across Ontario and Nova Scotia, so help is accessible wherever you are.

Emotional/Physical Abuse

Whether experienced in childhood or adulthood, emotional and physical abuse can leave lasting impacts on your mental and emotional well-being. Emotional abuse may involve manipulation, control, or constant criticism, while physical abuse includes any form of physical harm. Both can lead to anxiety, low self-worth, and difficulty in relationships. Abuse can also affect how you view yourself and others, making it hard to trust, feel safe, or express your needs. At Harmony Healing Psychotherapy, we offer trauma-informed therapy that helps clients across Ontario and Nova Scotia process these painful experiences, rebuild their sense of safety, and begin to heal in a supportive, empowering environment.

Intergenerational Trauma

Intergenerational trauma refers to the transmission of trauma from one generation to the next. This can occur through patterns of behavior, unspoken family rules, and emotional responses shaped by ancestral experiences such as war, colonization, displacement, or systemic oppression. You may find yourself reacting in ways that feel confusing or disproportionate, only to realize they are rooted in survival strategies passed down through your lineage. At Harmony Healing Psychotherapy, we help you uncover and understand these inherited patterns within their cultural and historical context. Through trauma-informed therapy, we work together to break these cycles, develop healthier coping mechanisms, and create space for growth, resilience, and healing—for yourself and future generations.

First Responders & Trauma

First responders—including police officers, paramedics, firefighters, correctional officers, and healthcare workers—are regularly exposed to high-stress situations and traumatic events. This repeated exposure can lead to symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, emotional exhaustion, hypervigilance, and difficulty sleeping or disconnecting from work. Over time, the toll of these experiences can impact both professional performance and personal relationships. At Harmony Healing Psychotherapy, we understand the unique challenges faced by those in frontline roles. We provide confidential, trauma-informed therapy tailored to the needs of first responders, with a culturally aware and nonjudgmental approach. Our evidence-based treatments aim to reduce distress, improve coping skills, and support long-term mental wellness. Virtual services are available across Ontario and Nova Scotia, offering flexible access to support when and where it’s needed most.

Traumatic Grief

Grief becomes traumatic when a loss is sudden, violent, unexpected, or involves deeply distressing circumstances—such as the death of a loved one due to an accident, suicide, homicide, or medical trauma. This type of grief can feel overwhelming, leaving you stuck in a state of shock, numbness, or disbelief. You may struggle with intrusive thoughts, guilt, anger, or a sense that life no longer feels safe or meaningful. Unlike typical grief, traumatic grief can disrupt your ability to function and may lead to symptoms of PTSD or depression. At Harmony Healing Psychotherapy, we offer compassionate, trauma-informed support to help you process the pain of loss, preserve your emotional connection to the person you've lost, and move forward at your own pace. Therapy can be a powerful tool to navigate complex emotions, rebuild meaning, and gently restore a sense of safety and hope. Virtual services are available across Ontario and Nova Scotia.
